P6

The rain kept pouring down, but neither of them noticed. He continued to sit motionless, unable to comprehend what was going on. She stayed there, and kept holding on. How could she be so mean? How could she be so, impossible?

She didn’t know at all, but she knew one thing. She was wrong, for once.

“I’m sorry….” she said, her voice muffled by the sound of rain and his jacket.

She sat and buried her face in the jacket on his back. If she had a choice, she would never let him go.

After a few moments, he finally snapped back into reality. She was getting anxious with his lack of response.

“Is that really you…?” he asked, turning to face her. She loosened her hold and let go. She said nothing. She looked down at the ground. She was mad at herself, mad that she was so unreasonable and so cruel.

He looked at her, stared at her. It really was her, he believed.

“How did you know….?” he asked, “How are you here…?”

She kept her eyes down and moved away from him.

He grabbed her wrist before she could move further and pulled her into a hug.

“Whatever it was, don’t go…” he said, as if she would disappear any second.

He held her close and tight, she felt so safe and secure. What the hell was she thinking when she left? She’d never guess or know.

“I’m sorry…” she said wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him. He held onto her tightly around her waist. They stayed like that for moments on end, not even caring for the rain or the cold.

She pulled away first, but not completely. She looked at his face, and touched where she had slapped him that day. There was a small scar, from her slap and nail. “I did that…” she said, sadly. She kissed him on his cheek, where the scar was. “I’m so sorry….”

What else could she say? Nothing, really.

“It’s okay baby,” he said holding her tightly again.

“Oh, right…” she said after a few moments. She reached into her pocket and took the small box out. “This is yours, I think…” she said as she looked at the box one last time and handed it to him.

“Did you open it?” he said, a little worried.

“No….” she said, extremely curious, “What’s it for?”

“Oh, haha, I don’t know…” he said rolling and fiddling the box around in his hand.

“Tell meeee,” she whined. She quirked her eyebrows together and pouted her lips.

“Tell me tell me tell me!” she whined, pouted and squirmed.

“Okay okay…” he said, sighing and giving in.

“Here, stand up and close your eyes first, don’t open till I tell you to, okay?” he said.

“Okay…” she said, not really understanding what he was going to do. She stood up slowly and closed her eyes, she waited.

He watched as she did so. Everything she did was cute to him. She nodded her head side to side as she waited.

He stood up and kissed her on the lips. She seemed surprised, but of course, she kissed back. It was like their first kiss, all over again.

He pulled away and she kept her eyes closed.

“Can I open my eyes now…?” she whined.

“Not yet,” he said, taking deep breaths.

He got down on one knee and held the box up with unsure hands.

“Okay, you can open your eyes….” he said, nervous.

She opened her eyes and her eyes wandered down to him, on one knee.

“what…” she said, confused, still unaware of what was going on.

He fidgeted nervously on one knee and looked up at her.

“You know… you know I love you. Maybe sometimes you’ll forget, but I really do. And if you ever do forget, I want you to look down at this ring and remember that I do love you…” he said, slowly and enthusiastically.

“So, will you marry me?” he asked, pleaded, “please?”

She stood in silence. It’s like the sound of the rain was muted. She looked at him, in pure disbelief.

He waited moment after moment for her answer.

She snapped back into reality and said “Yes, of course…”

A smile appeared on his lips as he took the ring out of the box and slip it onto her ring finger. It fit perfectly.

He stood up and she went to hug him tightly around his neck. “I love you,” she said loudly.

“I love you too,” he said holding her tight, “don’t ever leave me again.”
